9 Canned Wines That Are Actually Worth Drinking
The weather is finally starting to get to that perfect temperature where you still don’t have to use your air conditioner at night, but you can sit outside all day long in a tank top and jeans. We’re into it. Of course, with that weather comes the desire to drink outside, whether it’s after work or over the weekend. While we’re all about getting down with our favorite wines, a glass bottle doesn’t always cut it, whether it’s because we don’t want to commit, or because we’re at a spot that doesn’t allow it. Turns out, canned wine can be a saving grace at the beach, a concert, a tailgate, or pretty much anywhere you would typically grab a can of beer.
To make things easier for you, SELF editors tried 26 canned wines (there are a surprising number of them out there!) and found nine that are totally worth adding to your summer rotation. For us, red wines came out on top, but there were a few standout rosés and whites, too. Basically, there’s something in here for everybody.

E&J Gallo CS Photography,JS1 Barefoot Refresh Moscato Spritzer, $7 for 4 (8.4-ounce) cans
One of our only white wine picks, this light spritzer is a blend of Chenin Blanc and Riesling. Testers “loved the taste and the sweetness,” even going as far as to say that it would be “nice as a dessert sparkling wine.” We know what we’re serving as a final course at our next BBQ.

Dennis Lane Photography2 Infinite Monkey Theorem Red Can, $15 for 4 (8.4-ounce) cans
Sold as a carbonated Merlot, testers liked that this wine was a little more dry and tasted “like a bottled wine.” One pointed out that this could work well with a steak or a main course with lots of flavor. Each can is almost two servings, so you’re set if you’re a red-wine lover and headed out for the day, or looking to enjoy a drink with a date. You can also buy them individually.

Great Oregon Wine Company3 Great Oregon Wine Company Pinot Noir, $13 for 4 (6.3-ounce) cans
These cans were a bit smaller than the other ones we tested, but our testers really liked the “light and fruity” taste, which comes from tart red cherries and boysenberries. One even felt they would “crack one of these cans open after a long day of work.”

Porch Pounder4 Porch Pounder Red Wine Shorty, $24 for 4 (12-ounce) cans
Our testers liked the tastes of “cinnamon and nutmeg” in this “dry, smooth red.” One tester also really like the “full bodied” taste of this one. Perfect for people-watching all afternoon on a porch (although maybe don’t pound it?). You can also find these in tall boys, meaning you get 16-ounce cans.

Alloy Wine Works5 Alloy Wine Works Pinot Noir, $8 for a 16-ounce can
Tasters loved this medium-bodied red because of how sweet it was. It’s a surprising contrast to the other, mostly dry red wines on the list, and it’s a “good summer drink” because of it’s “light and tart taste.” It’s also sold in a four pack for $30.

90+ Cellars6 Lila Wines: Rosé, France, $12 for 4 (8.4-ounce) cans
We’re big fans of rosé—in everything from gummy bears to margaritas— so it’s no surprise that this wine made the list . Testers found this pink drink to be “light, clean, crisp, and fruity.” We’d recommend this for any clam bakes or shrimp boils you have planned this summer.

E.&J. Gallo CS Photography7 Barefoot Refresh Summer Red Spritzer, $8 for 4 (8.4-ounce) cans
Spritzers are the new way to drink outdoors in summer—and you heard it here first! It’s “super drinkable, bubbly, and smells like grapefruit.” Even tasters that don’t usually drink sweet reds approved of this summer spritzer.

The Drop8 The Drop Cali Red Wine, $20 for 4 (8.4-ounce) cans
This California Zinfandel blend scored big since it “tastes like it was poured from a bottle.” It had a “nice taste and aftertaste” and was super full-bodied. The fact that it was coming from an aluminum can didn’t seem to change or dull the flavor at all, which is key with such a bold wine.

Christine Baker-Parrish9 Alloy Wine Works Everyday Rosé, $8 for a 16.9-ounce can
Our second rosé pick is this “nice dry wine with great taste.” Testers said they “would drink at a picnic,” which also means it would taste great on a rooftop (we’re all about getting outdoors however we can). You can also buy this in a four pack for $30.
